A Torn Memory
(For Barbara)
"I can't find the title
of a memory about you
with a hand torn from darkness
I step on fragments of faces"
—Zbigniew Herbert, Three poems by heart.
a memory torn from
the old fashion calendar
a reminder of the past
disguised as the future
an unfinished map of
forgetting
an eye looking into
an eye
a question and an answer
a touch of breath
trapped in a photograph
exposed by chemistry of
thoughts and feelings
in a darkroom where
the architecture of
poetry arches over
like an epitaph
