"Torn Texts & Hybrid Glyphs: VISPO, Altered Texts & Altered Realities" is an experimental exploration of language, poetry, and space. Blending visual poetry (VISPO), altered texts, & immersive XR technologies, this book charts a creative journey across media—from hand-painted artist books & collage, to virtual reality environments & 3D spatial poems.
Part manifesto, & part speculative map, this book questions the boundaries of language & invites readers to rethink meaning, form, & perception. What happens when you don’t just read a poem, but walk through it? What if language could shatter—& reassemble—like glass, light, or memory?
A hybrid collection of ideas, artworks, & process reflections, "Torn Texts & Hybrid Glyphs" is for readers, artists, & explorers curious about the edges of poetry, the possibilities of technology, and the shapes language can take when set free.

VIPSO, Altered Texts, & Altered Realities"
"By combining virtual reality, analog and digital tools, ReVerse Butcher breaks and rebuilds language and reality into maps of wonder and insight. rVb connects the past to the future by setting nineteenth-century vintage paper into motion and colour. QR codes lead outward to gorgeous companion films and videos. Feast your eyes, mind and heart on this book, and you will realize there's nothing the imagination can't create and inhabit. ReVerse Butcher is a modern-day alchemist, a weaver of magic and virtual reality myths and fairy tales, spun into gold on paper."

"This is less a book and more a portal, a magical talisman into a world of transcendent digital creations that occupy more than the linear and static form of the page; a bridge between the realms of poetry and visual art, one that aims to break language and redefine reality.

I’ve been in awe of rVb’s work since I  discovered it a few years ago. My copy of her previous release with Steel Incisors Kaleidoscopic Erasures I regard with the same reverence as the Voynich Manuscript; its hallucinogenic text and images burst from the page in new and exciting forms. Torn Textures & Hybrid Glyphs delivers further strokes of genius, presenting not only rVb’s page/text-delivered work, but the digital poetry dreamscapes she’s created on film, often in collaboration with Kylie Supski, and available to the reader via QR code.

This is vispo, but not as you know it. Work not merely to read, but to dive in, full immersion, wherein to live and dream. As she writes in the piece Art / Magic
“the/ art/ i/ refer the reader to/ was/ actually magic”

"The octave contains another octave." Instead of leaving the page as a canvas or screen to look through, ReVerse Butcher reveals the multitude of the page itself (or perhaps the page herself). Her colorful compositions vibrate, suggesting magic-inscribed maps or charts. She guides us into imaginary territories that cross planes up and down, fragment into figures, and unwrite the past and future. I want to dwell in these generous, carefully assembled visions. Here, all of our relations, even those as fundamental as words to the page glow with intense agency, complexity, and beauty."

COMING SOON | SOLO ART EXHIBITION
DEC 19 2025 - JAN 25 2026
Art Space Ballarat, 14 Lydiard Street N, Ballarat Central, VIC, Australia
Supported by Creative Ballarat
Coinciding with the international release of the print and eBook edition of Book of VISPO (Steel Incisors, UK), this solo exhibition brings together a dynamic collection of 2D, 3D, and multimedia works exploring the evolving language of visual poetry.
From hand-crafted artist books and experimental mark-making to immersive VR installations and videopoems, the exhibition traces the fluid boundaries between text, image, sound, and space. Through altered texts, hybrid glyphs, and interactive experiences, the works invite viewers to engage with language in new and unexpected ways—seen, felt, and navigated beyond the page.
Spanning traditional materials and cutting-edge technologies, Book of VISPO is a poetic and spatial investigation of what happens when language is broken open—and reimagined.
