Electric Cathedral is an experimental Opera that investigates what it takes to remain deeply human in a digital age. It consists of six vocal soundscapes: 'Love', 'Artificial Intelligence', 'Metaself', 'Death', 'Rebirth', & 'Language', each with an accompanying VR artwork. The opera's design is modular, which means soundscapes can be programmed individually, or together, and in any order. Production design has held flexible & Covid-safe delivery in mind, including (but not limited to): live stage performance with projections, online delivery, audio-visual recording (live action, digitally produced, or a combination of the two), livestreaming, short-or-long music video, AR installation, immersive theatre, & VR experience.
The score was written by Kevin March, the poetry by Kylie Supski & ReVerse Butcher, & the VR artworks by ReVerse Butcher. It's first live performance is scheduled Oct 3-5 2024 at the Melbourne Fringe Festival, by the The Consort of Melbourne.
